"A New Day" |
|
This view is from the dormitory of the Moscow Academy of Arts. The complex and artistic roofs of the buildings are a pleasure to behold. This very old area of Moscow was selected by earlier artists for places to live and studios to do their work. It has been strongly connected with art and artists for the past two hundred years. The area is like the famous artist community in Paris known as le Ruche (the “beehive”). Famous artists worked there, such as Serov, Levitan, and Petrov-Vodkin, and the famed writer Boris Pasternak (author of Dr. Zhivago, for which he received the Nobel Prize in literature). The magnetic aura of this place still draws artists and many other creative people today. |
