"April Evening" was actually inspired by another artist named Alex Katz who created a work with black outlined trees silhouetted against a deep "Blue Ridge Mountains" night sky. The moonrise was the perfect addition to this peaceful composition. The Handel designed desk lamp, circa 1910, was borrowed from the artist's friend. The interior setting comes directly from the artist's home in Vermont.
Gordon was along the coast of Maine when he discovered the setting for "6 AM." The house that he featured is a 1750 Cape Neddick, Maine location. The painting above the fireplace is titled "Looking Down Yosemite Valley" by famed American painter Albert Bierstadt. The artist mused that the early morning smoldering fire seemed to complete the scene.
